YOUR COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS are the next level of local government and everyone can easily particpate in these. They demand little time and effort for a big reward. Through the community associations representations on local issues are made to all the higher levels of government either directly or in steps through the chain. To see your community associations profile and be up to date on it, go back to http://sechelt.net and click on YOUR community association's link.
THE G8 SECHELT COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION FORUM  - are an intermediate step in the governing process. It is a loosely organized gathering of representatives of each of the community associations in the Sechelt District. They meet about once a month and compare notes on what is going on in each community. This way the problems and solutions of one can be shared with all. Often the G8 takes a position on an issue affecting them all and presents its views to the higher authorities. Representing as it does all of the community population the views of the G8 are treated with respect and have influence.
Explore this web site for G8 information. Feel free to email them.

SUNSHINE COAST REGIONAL DISTRICT - The SCRD was incorporated in January of 1967 following the 1965 Provincial legislation which established a partnership between the electoral areas and the municipalities within their boundaries. Regional Districts were designed to have the ability to:
Resolve local problems which go beyond municipal boundaries.
Provide local services to areas without regard to municipal boundaries.
Provide local government to non-municipal areas known as electoral areas.
Provide an exclusive service to a municipality on mutually agreed terms providing the entire cost of the service is borne by the municipality.
The SCRD is one of 27 Regional Districts in British Columbia.
The SCRD has a full web site with information about it and the District

Two web sites are particularly helpful for the general public:
Government Agent's site: has instructions and contact links for over 50 government services and may help you through the bureauacracy.
B.C. Government Official Site: contains latest government news but is more driven by political considerations.
