The Saving of Davis Brook
From its very beginnings the Sandy Hook Community Association has championed the preservation of the environment and the peaceful rural atmosphere of the area. In June of 1994 the Association made submissions to the District for the Official Community Plan. It started with the words:
,"Above all, the community of Sandy Hook treasures its close relationship to nature. The vistas of the Inlet afforded from the hillsides, and trails through adjacent forested lands…"
That same year it came to the attention of the board that a prime waterfront lot containing a salmon stream was for sale (see map). Its complete sale to insensitive private interests might lead to destruction of this wonderful resource.
Further, the "
Salmonid Enhancement Program" was underway in the province to save and enhance the salmon bearing streams and it was no coincidence that a first class beach was at the bottom of the stream for residents to enjoy. The battle lines were drawn.
On this web page with its attachments we are trying to archive some of that wonderful project of your Community Association.
