WEST PORPOISE BAY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

                   PRESIDENT’S  REPORT    JUNE 2003

I’m trying something new, this will be sent out via e-mail and snail mail to those without a computer.  This will not go to anyone except paid up members of the association.

I would like to bring you up to date on several ongoing items within our area and the District of Sechelt.

First the Director’s will not be meeting during summer months except for a short planning meeting for the picnic.  That will be held Sept. 7 at Kinnickinnick Park starting at approximately 4 PM.  As usual we will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, and pop.  You are asked to bring a salad or desert to share.  Of course you will also need eating utensils, plate, and a chair.  I don’t know as yet if we will have any doggy or kid games.

The school signs on Reef Road by the Christian school and Church has been changed to a playground and school sign.  So watch the speed, RCMP may be giving tickets!

The Sandpiper Development seems to be on hold for the time being, but keep alert to any changes and let your directors know if you hear or see anything going on.

Another area of concern to all resident’s is Council’s determination to build a “wall of condominiums” on the last piece of waterfront left in Sechelt.  There are other plans available and a possible developer who would develop the land so that more people could enjoy the waterfront.  It has been suggested to the possibility of an artisan’s village on one end (with ice cream, coffee shop etc) incorporated.  A small area to be developed for residential (as the OCP calls for) and the possibility of a small park to be in between.

I would urge you to write the Mayor and Council objecting to this  development as it stands.  There will be four stories plus the roof and virtually nothing for tourists or resident’s of Sechelt .  I know council is trying to expand to tax base but I feel this would take away from the feel of Sechelt being a Seaside community.

Be sure to watch our web site for new information, our webmaster has been away so hope to update soon.

Please feel free to contact any of the Directors’s if you have concerns about anything.  If we don’t know the answer we will try to find out.
